A practical guide to Ontario's regulated online casino market, how iGaming Ontario licensing works, and what to consider before playing at an offshore site.
Ontario has two distinct categories of online casino: sites registered with iGaming Ontario (regulated by AGCO) and offshore sites licensed elsewhere. iGO-registered sites offer the strongest consumer protections for Ontario players; offshore sites operate in a legal grey area and carry higher risk. This guide covers both, explains the differences, and helps you evaluate any site critically.
The casinos below are listed in the order we suggest reviewing them. Check every condition on the casino’s own site before you deposit.

Up to $4,000 + 450 FS
Oshi has been operating since 2015 and, according to the operator, offers a library of over 12,000 games including 893 live titles and 200 crash games, with software from Pragmatic Play, BGaming, Spribe, and Beter Live. The site owner lists a welcome bonus of up to $4,000 + 450 FS, and the platform supports both CAD and crypto banking, including Interac deposits and withdrawals.
According to publicly available sources, crypto cashouts average around 12 minutes, and the VIP program spans five tiers offering up to 10% weekly cashback along with a personal account manager. However, the operator's own key features note that Oshi is not available to players in Ontario or Alberta, which is a significant limitation for this audience.
Best for: Crypto-friendly players outside Ontario who want a long-established site with fast withdrawals and a broad game library.
Up to $9,750 + 225 FS
Slots Gallery is operated by Metlait SRL and accepts a wide range of payment methods including Interac, iDebit, major cards, e-wallets, and crypto, with instant withdrawals reported for e-wallets and crypto according to publicly available sources. The site owner lists a welcome bonus of up to $9,750 + 225 FS, and the platform is accessible via mobile browser without a dedicated app.
A standout feature is the 25-level loyalty program, which according to the operator rewards players with free spins at each level-up and progressively reduces free spin wagering requirements from 40x down to 5x at higher tiers. However, the public research available relates to an Australian site version, so some details may not apply directly to Canadian players.
Best for: Loyalty-focused players who want a deep progression system and flexible payment options including Interac and crypto.

Ontario is the only Canadian province with a fully open, competitive regulated online casino market. Since April 2022, operators must register with iGaming Ontario (iGO) — a subsidiary of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) — and sign a commercial agreement with iGO before accepting real-money wagers from Ontario residents. Sites that meet this requirement are listed on the official iGO operator registry and must follow AGCO's Registrar's Standards for Internet Gaming, which cover game fairness, responsible gambling tools, advertising rules and player fund protection.
What separates an iGO-registered site from a grey-market offshore option is accountability: if a dispute arises, players can escalate to AGCO. Offshore sites licensed in Curaçao, Kahnawake or elsewhere are not provincially authorised in Ontario, and AGCO has no jurisdiction over them. That does not automatically make them fraudulent, but it does mean the consumer protections are weaker and dispute resolution is harder. For a full breakdown of what the offshore category means in practice, see our guide to casinos not on iGaming Ontario.
The two owner-selected sites below are offshore operators that accept Canadian players. They are not iGO-registered. Bonus terms and conditions apply; verify current terms directly with each operator before depositing.
| Casino | Licence | Welcome Offer | Conditions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oshi | Offshore (not iGO-registered) | Up to $4,000 + 450 Free Spins | 18+ · Bonus terms apply |
| Slots Gallery | Offshore (not iGO-registered) | Up to $9,750 + 225 Free Spins | 18+ · Bonus terms apply |
Real-money casino games at Canadian online casinos fall into four main categories: slots, table games, live dealer games and progressive jackpots. Each works differently in terms of how the house edge is set, what return-to-player (RTP) figures mean, and how free-play mode compares to wagering real CAD.
RTP is the theoretical percentage of all wagered money a game returns to players over a very large number of rounds. A slot with 96% RTP returns $96 for every $100 wagered on average — but this is a long-run statistical figure, not a per-session guarantee. Individual sessions can vary widely in either direction. Game providers publish RTP figures in the game's help or paytable section; regulated iGO sites are required to make this information accessible.
Free-play (demo) mode lets you learn a game's mechanics without financial risk, but it does not replicate the psychological experience of real-money play, and bonus features may behave differently. Switching to real-money play means every spin or hand has a direct financial outcome.
Slots are the largest category by game count. Titles from providers such as NetEnt, Pragmatic Play, Play'n GO and Microgaming are common across both iGO-registered and offshore sites. Table games — blackjack, roulette, baccarat and poker variants — typically carry lower house edges than slots when played with basic strategy. Live dealer games stream a real croupier via video and sit between the two in terms of pace and social interaction. Progressive jackpot slots pool a portion of each bet across a network, building a prize that can reach seven figures, though the base RTP on these games is often lower than standard slots.
| Game Type | Typical RTP Range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Video Slots | 94%–97% | Varies by title; check the game's paytable or help section |
| Blackjack (basic strategy) | 99%+ | House edge under 0.5% with optimal play; higher with poor decisions |
| European Roulette | 97.3% | Single-zero wheel; avoid American roulette (94.7% RTP) |
| Baccarat (Banker bet) | ~98.9% | One of the lowest house edges among table games |
| Live Dealer Games | Matches base game | RTP is set by the game rules, not the live format |
| Progressive Jackpots | 88%–94% (base) | Lower base RTP; a portion of each bet feeds the jackpot pool |
Canadian online casinos offer several types of promotional bonuses. Understanding the mechanics before you claim one is more useful than comparing headline figures.
A welcome or sign-up bonus matches a percentage of your first deposit up to a stated maximum — for example, 100% up to $500 means a $500 deposit gives you $500 in bonus funds, for $1,000 to play with. The bonus portion is not the same as cash: it must be wagered a set number of times before any winnings can be withdrawn. A 30x wagering requirement on a $500 bonus means you must place $15,000 in qualifying bets before the bonus converts to withdrawable cash. Not all games contribute equally — slots may count 100% toward the requirement while table games count 10% or less.
No-deposit bonuses give a small amount of bonus credit or free spins without requiring a deposit. These are common at offshore sites. The wagering requirements are typically high (40x–60x), maximum cashout limits are low (often $50–$100), and eligibility may be restricted by country or payment method. Treat no-deposit offers as a way to try a site, not as a reliable source of withdrawable winnings.
Free spins are awarded on specific slot titles. The value per spin is fixed (often $0.10–$0.20 CAD), and winnings from free spins are usually credited as bonus funds subject to wagering requirements, not as cash.
Reload bonuses apply to subsequent deposits and typically offer a lower match percentage (25%–50%) than the welcome offer.
In Ontario, AGCO's advertising standards restrict how iGO-registered operators can promote bonuses publicly — this is one reason offshore sites often advertise larger or more prominent offers. Our dedicated guide to offshore casino bonuses explains whether those larger figures translate to real value after wagering requirements are applied.
| Bonus Type | Typical Value | Wagering Requirement Range | Key Limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Welcome / Deposit Match | 50%–200% up to $500–$2,000 | 20x–50x bonus amount | Game contribution rules reduce effective value |
| No-Deposit Bonus | $5–$30 or 10–50 free spins | 40x–60x winnings | Low max cashout; often $50–$100 cap |
| Free Spins (on deposit) | 25–200 spins on named slots | 30x–50x spin winnings | Fixed spin value; specific game only |
| Reload Bonus | 25%–50% up to $200–$500 | 25x–40x bonus amount | Frequency and eligibility vary by site |
Newly launched Canadian casino sites can offer competitive welcome packages and fresh game libraries, but a recent launch date is not itself a quality signal. The most important checks for any new site are the same as for an established one: a verifiable licence number checked against the issuing regulator's public registry, a named software provider list, and published terms for bonuses and withdrawals.
For Ontario players, the additional question is whether the new site is registered with iGaming Ontario. A site can launch with a Curaçao or Malta licence and accept Canadian players without iGO registration — that places it in the offshore category regardless of how recently it launched. New offshore sites may also have shorter complaint histories, making it harder to assess payout reliability from player reports.
Our dedicated new casinos page covers recently launched sites accepting Canadian players, with licence verification and launch details.
Most Canadian online casinos are accessible on mobile through a browser-based instant-play interface that works on both iOS and Android without a download. Some operators also offer a dedicated app, though availability on the Apple App Store or Google Play depends on the operator's registration status and the platform's own policies.
For Ontario players, iGO-registered operators are more likely to have approved apps available through official app stores. Offshore sites more commonly rely on browser play or direct APK downloads for Android, which carry their own security considerations.
The practical difference between a mobile browser and a dedicated app is usually minor for gameplay, but apps can offer faster loading, push notifications and biometric login. Our mobile casino page covers iOS and Android options in more detail, including which sites offer the smoothest experience on smaller screens.
A real-money online casino accepts deposits in actual currency, pays out winnings in actual currency, and carries genuine financial risk on every bet. The key practical questions for Canadian players are whether the site accepts CAD deposits without conversion fees, which payment methods are available, and how reliably and quickly it processes withdrawals.
CAD banking matters because currency conversion adds cost. Many offshore sites list CAD as a supported currency but process transactions in USD or EUR, applying an exchange rate at deposit and withdrawal. Confirm the site's base currency in its banking terms before depositing.
Payout reliability is harder to assess than deposit ease. Our real-money casino page covers what to look for in a site's withdrawal terms, including published processing times, KYC requirements and withdrawal limits in CAD.
Canada's Criminal Code sets the federal framework: operating a gambling business without provincial authorisation is an offence, but the Code does not explicitly criminalise individual players placing bets. Gambling regulation is a provincial responsibility, and each province has taken a different approach.
Ontario is the most open market: since April 2022, private operators can legally offer online casino games to Ontario residents, provided they are registered with AGCO and contracted with iGaming Ontario. Outside Ontario, most provinces restrict online casino to their own lottery corporation sites — for example, BCLC's PlayNow in British Columbia, or Loto-Québec's Espacejeux in Quebec.
Offshore sites that accept Ontario players without iGO registration are not provincially authorised. AGCO has issued public notices warning consumers about unregistered operators. The legal risk falls primarily on the operator, not the individual player, but players at unregistered sites have no recourse through Ontario's regulatory system if a dispute arises. Our full legal guide covers this distinction in detail.

Payout speed depends on three separate stages: the casino's internal processing time, the payment method's own transfer time, and any pending KYC (Know Your Customer) verification. These stages are sequential, not parallel — a casino that advertises 'instant withdrawals' is usually describing its internal processing time only, not the end-to-end time from request to funds in your account.
KYC verification is the most common cause of first-withdrawal delays. Most sites require government-issued photo ID, proof of address (utility bill or bank statement dated within 90 days) and confirmation of the payment method used to deposit. Completing this verification before requesting your first withdrawal avoids the delay at the critical moment.
E-wallets and cryptocurrency wallets typically complete the payment-method stage fastest once the casino has processed the request. Bank transfers and cheques are slowest. Interac e-Transfer is widely used in Canada and generally faster than a standard bank wire, though processing times vary by financial institution.
The table below shows typical ranges based on published operator terms. Actual times may differ by account status, verification stage and the specific operator. For a detailed comparison of payout speeds at Ontario-available sites, see our guide to which online casinos pay out the most in Ontario.
| Payment Method | Typical Withdrawal Time (after casino processing) | CAD Supported | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Interac e-Transfer | 0–24 hours | Yes | Most common method for Canadian players; widely accepted |
| E-wallet (e.g. MuchBetter, Skrill) | 0–24 hours | Varies by provider | Check whether the wallet accepts CAD or converts |
| Cryptocurrency (e.g. Bitcoin) | Minutes to 1 hour (blockchain) | No (converted) | Irreversible; exchange rate risk at conversion |
| Visa/Mastercard Debit | 1–5 business days | Yes | Some issuers block gambling transactions |
| Bank Wire Transfer | 3–7 business days | Yes | Slowest option; may carry bank fees |
| Voucher / Prepaid Card | Deposit only at most sites | Varies | Rarely available for withdrawals |
Some operators offer both an online casino and a sportsbook under the same account. In Ontario, a site must hold iGO registration to legally offer either product to Ontario residents — there is no separate sports-betting-only licence that also covers casino games. Operators registered with iGO for both products include several major international brands that entered the Ontario market at or after the April 2022 launch.
For offshore sites, a combined casino and sportsbook is common, but neither product is provincially authorised in Ontario. The practical implication is that a single account covers both, but the consumer protections and dispute resolution available at iGO-registered sites do not apply.
When comparing combined sites, check whether the welcome offer applies to casino play, sports betting or both, and whether wagering requirements differ between the two products. A sports betting bonus with a 1x rollover is very different from a casino bonus with a 30x requirement, even if the headline dollar figure is the same.
| Site Type | iGO Registration Required? | Combined Account? | Dispute Route |
|---|---|---|---|
| iGO-registered (casino + sportsbook) | Yes | Yes, if operator holds both products | AGCO / iGO complaint process |
| Offshore (casino + sportsbook) | No (not provincially authorised) | Yes, typically | Operator's own process; licensing body abroad |
iGaming Ontario is a subsidiary of AGCO established under the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation Act. It acts as the commercial counterparty for private operators: a site must both hold an AGCO registration and sign a commercial agreement with iGO before it can legally offer online casino games to Ontario residents. The market launched on 4 April 2022.
The official list of registered operators is published on the iGaming Ontario website and updated as operators are added or removed. To confirm a site is genuinely registered, check that the domain you are using matches the domain listed in the iGO registry — operators sometimes run multiple domains, and not all of them may be registered. A licence number in a site's footer is a claim, not verification, until you have checked it against the issuing authority's own records.
For a detailed explanation of how the iGO framework works and what it means for players, see our guide to what iGaming Ontario is and how its operator list works. For sites that are not on the iGO list, our casinos not on iGaming Ontario guide covers the trade-offs.
| Check | How to Verify | What It Means for Players |
|---|---|---|
| iGO registration | Search the iGO operator list at igamingontario.ca; match domain exactly | Site is provincially authorised; AGCO has jurisdiction |
| AGCO registration number | Check AGCO's public register; do not rely on the footer claim alone | Confirms the operator entity, not just the brand name |
| Responsible gambling tools | Look for deposit limits, session limits, self-exclusion and reality checks in account settings | Required by AGCO standards for all registered operators |
| Player fund protection | Check terms for how player balances are held (segregated accounts or insurance) | iGO standards require operators to protect player funds |
| Dispute resolution | Confirm the site's complaint process and whether AGCO is named as escalation body | Regulated sites must have a formal complaints procedure |
Every site covered on this guide is assessed against the same set of criteria. No operator can pay for a higher rating; commercial relationships affect which sites receive coverage and where affiliate links appear, but ratings follow the evidence. Where we have not been able to verify a claim — for example, a payout time that is not published in the operator's terms — we say so rather than filling the gap with an assumption.
Licensing and legal status carries the most weight because it determines what protections a player actually has. A site without a verifiable licence from a recognised regulator, or one that is operating in Ontario without iGO registration, is flagged clearly. Bonus fairness is assessed on the wagering requirement, game contribution rules, maximum cashout and expiry — not on the headline dollar figure. Payout speed is assessed against published terms, not marketing claims; where we have noted a discrepancy between stated and actual times from documented player reports, that is reflected in the rating.
The criteria table below shows the factors we use and their relative weight in our overall assessment.
| Criterion | Weight | What We Check |
|---|---|---|
| Licensing and legal status | High | Verified licence number against regulator registry; iGO registration for Ontario |
| Game variety and software providers | Medium | Number of titles, provider names, RTP availability in-game |
| Bonus fairness | Medium | Wagering requirement, game contribution, max cashout, expiry — from published terms |
| Payout speed and payment methods | Medium | Published processing times; CAD support; KYC requirements |
| Customer support | Medium | Available channels, stated response times, language support |
| Mobile quality | Low–Medium | Browser and app availability; iOS and Android compatibility |
| Responsible gambling tools | High | Deposit limits, self-exclusion, session limits, links to support organisations |

Every casino is described by the same published fields: welcome offer and its conditions, minimum deposit, withdrawal estimate and licence. We do not rate casinos with scores and we do not publish player reviews.
Online gambling regulation is a provincial matter in Canada. In Ontario, private operators registered with AGCO and contracted with iGaming Ontario can legally offer online casino games. In most other provinces, only the provincial lottery site is authorised. Offshore sites that accept Canadian players without provincial authorisation are not legally sanctioned in those provinces, and players at such sites have no recourse through provincial regulators.
There is no single answer that applies to every player. For Ontario residents, a site registered with iGaming Ontario offers the strongest consumer protections. For players in other provinces, the authorised provincial site is the only fully regulated option. When evaluating any site, check the licence, read the withdrawal terms and look at the responsible gambling tools before depositing.
Most Canadian-facing sites accept Interac e-Transfer, which processes in CAD and is widely available through Canadian banks. Visa and Mastercard debit cards are also common. Before depositing, confirm in the site's banking section that CAD is the account currency — some sites list CAD as supported but process transactions in USD or EUR, applying a conversion at both deposit and withdrawal.
Blackjack played with basic strategy has one of the lowest house edges of any casino game — under 0.5% at most tables. Baccarat (Banker bet) and European roulette (single zero) also offer relatively favourable odds. Slots have higher house edges on average, though RTP varies significantly by title. Check the RTP figure in the game's help or paytable section before playing.
A wagering requirement (also called a playthrough requirement) is the number of times you must bet a bonus amount before any winnings from it can be withdrawn. For example, a $100 bonus with a 30x wagering requirement means you must place $3,000 in qualifying bets. Not all games count equally — table games often contribute 10% or less, while slots typically count 100%.
KYC stands for Know Your Customer. It is the identity verification process casinos use to confirm who you are before processing a withdrawal. Typically you need to submit a government-issued photo ID, proof of address and confirmation of your payment method. Completing KYC before your first withdrawal request avoids delays at the point when you want to access your funds.
Offshore sites that are not registered with iGaming Ontario are not provincially authorised in Ontario. AGCO has issued public warnings about unregistered operators. Playing at such sites means you have no recourse through Ontario's regulatory system if a dispute arises. The legal risk falls primarily on the operator, but the practical risk — including unresolved withdrawal disputes — falls on the player. See our guide on whether it is legal to play at offshore casinos in Ontario for a full explanation.
For most recreational players, gambling winnings are not considered taxable income under CRA guidelines. However, if gambling is your primary source of income or you operate in a business-like manner, winnings may be treated as business income. The origin of the winnings — offshore or domestic — does not change the general rule, but individual circumstances vary. Consult a tax professional for advice specific to your situation. Our guide on offshore casino winnings and Canadian tax covers this in more detail.
iGO-registered sites are required by AGCO standards to offer deposit limits, session time limits, reality checks and self-exclusion. Ontario's self-exclusion programme (GameSense, operated through OLG) applies to provincially regulated sites. Offshore sites may offer their own voluntary tools, but Ontario's self-exclusion does not extend to unregistered operators.
